John Powers takes on Louie:

In this new season, for instance, Louie has a hilarious encounter with a truck-driving businesswoman, played with enormous vim by Melissa Leo, that’s so gleefully dirty that we can’t find even a snippet to share with you.
The same is often true of his standup act, where C.K. has perhaps a tad too much faith in the belief that talking about masturbation is always funny.
Yet what gives C.K.’s comedy its richness is that even the filthy stuff is never there just for its own sake, the way it is in, say, HBO’s Veep, which vaunts its soaring cadenzas of profanity. It has something serious behind it, a sense of urban melancholy, of male fragility, or the mere desire to understand wayward feelings. And C.K.’s humor is conceptual.

The man-made mechanical forest, five years in the making, consists of 18 supertrees that act as vertical gardens, generating solar power, acting as air venting ducts for nearby conservatories, and collecting rainwater. To generate electricity, 11 of the trees are fitted with solar photovoltaic systems that provide lighting and assist with water flow in the conservatories below.

NASA Prepares for Asteroid’s Close Pass by Earth
—
On Tuesday, November 8, at 6:28 p.m. EST, an asteroid the size of an aircraft carrier will soar past our planet at a distance closer than the Moon… and NASA scientists will be watching!

2005 YU55, a 400-meter (1,300-foot) -wide C-type asteroid, was discovered in December 2005 by Robert McMillan of the Spacewatch Program at the University of Arizona, Tucson. It’s pretty much spherical in shape and dark – darker than charcoal, in fact! Scientists with NASA’s Near-Earth Objects Observation Program will begin tracking it on November 4 using the 70-meter radar telescope at the Deep Space Network in Goldstone, California , as well as with the Arecibo Planetary Radar Facility in Puerto Rico beginning November 8. They will continue tracking 2005 YU55 through November 10.

The top earners are paying significantly less in taxes than the bottom earners. To spell that out in terms the person who made this sign clearly cannot understand, the government decided that the people who are making 350x more than the average earner should not have to pay more taxes.

They should pay less because conservatives believe that the money they save on taxes will be pumped back into the economy, and here’s the coincidence, and you’re not going to believe this: since those tax breaks have been put into place, the country has fallen further and further into debt.

THAT’S SO WEIRD. You mean these people aren’t showering the poor with their money, but they’re putting it in off-shore bank accounts and stocks? I would have never guessed that would happen.
